I am also working on writing a musical, based on the four books that will eventually cover the 20 years of my failed abusive marriage. So far I have about 15 songs and it's coming on well, but I have decided to put it on hold for a while as I would like to have the four books published before I launch into producing the musical. Having said that, each time I work on the musical it's like I dive into a rabbit hole - and no one sees me for weeks!
I am very happy with the way it is taking shape, and I add to it every now and again - but I need to stop adding to it as it is long enough I think! I'm in the process of writing a script.
Understandably I cannot cover all the content from the books in the musical, and that is where I get stuck, because I want the musical to represent the books, and in turn to represent Sally's journey.
But for now I'm happy with the way it is coming along.
I am able to visualise how I would like it to appear on stage, but the logistics of this may mean the performance may not be 'tour-able' ... so I might have to think of something else in some parts ... a bit difficult as I had wanted a circular turntable stage, so that the movement between rooms could be 'almost' seamless - this could be more of a challenge that I thought initially. Hmmm I need to re-think this. I have seen a turntable stage at Birmingham Hippodrome ... I wonder...
